Exterior House Painting โ Inner West & Bayside
Residential painting ยท Quotes and work are carried out by our licensed partner painting company (residential and commercial) and, occasionally, other licensed local painters.
Exterior repaints protect your home from UV, rain and salt air as much as they improve how it looks. From Federation cottages in Haberfield and Summer Hill to interwar bungalows in Earlwood and Bexley and beachside homes near Brighton-Le-Sands, each house needs the right prep and paint system.
What's usually included
- Pressure washing and mould treatment
- Scraping, sanding (wet methods on older paint) and filling
- Priming bare timber, repairs and cut edges
- Two top coats of a quality exterior acrylic
- Eaves, fascias, gutters, downpipes, window frames and doors
Cost
Published 2026 Sydney price guides put a single-storey 3-bedroom exterior at roughly $3,500โ$7,500 (PaintersHub) up to $5,000โ$12,000 (The Quote Yard). Double-storey homes commonly land around $7,000โ$19,500 once scaffolding is included. PaintersHub notes inner-city areas with terraces, tight access and parking limits often attract a slight premium.

Signs it's time to repaint
- Chalking: rub the wall with your hand โ white or coloured powder means the paint film is breaking down.
- Fading on north- and west-facing walls first.
- Peeling, bubbling or cracking around window frames, eaves and joints.
- Hairline cracks in render or failed sealant around windows and doors that can let water in.
- Bare or greying timber on fascias, barge boards, pergolas and doors.
How long does exterior paint last in Sydney?
Rough guide for a properly prepared repaint with quality acrylic:
| Surface | Typical life |
|---|---|
| Render and masonry (acrylic) | about 8โ12 years |
| Brick veneer trims, eaves and fascias | about 6โ10 years |
| Timber weatherboard | about 5โ10 years |
| Doors, window frames and high-touch trims | about 5โ8 years |
| Deck oil on exposed timber | about 1โ2 years |
West- and north-facing walls fade first; homes near Botany Bay wear faster from salt air.

Frequently asked questions
How long does an exterior repaint take?
A typical single-storey home takes around 4โ8 working days for a small crew, plus weather delays. Double-storey homes, terraces with tight access or homes needing lots of prep take longer.
Does the painter need a licence?
In NSW a contractor licence is required for residential painting work valued at more than $5,000 (labour and materials, incl. GST). Our partner painters hold the appropriate NSW contractor licence โ check any licence on the NSW Fair Trading public register before work starts.
When is the best time of year to paint outside in Sydney?
Spring and autumn are usually easiest: mild temperatures and lower humidity help paint cure. Most exterior acrylics shouldn't be applied below about 10ยฐC or onto hot, sun-baked walls.
